Itinerary

Your guide and manager from Best Egypt Tours will be waiting for you at Alexandria Port, holding a sign with your name. You will not need to search for them, as they will be there to welcome you and ensure a seamless start to your journey.

From the moment your tour begins, your guide will provide their full attention, sharing fascinating insights about the sites you will visit and offering engaging commentary throughout your journey.

Start your exploration with a visit to the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the largest Roman cemetery, featuring three remarkable levels carved into the rock. Next, proceed to the Roman Amphitheatre of Alexandria, which showcases sunken monuments discovered beneath the East Harbour. Continue with a photo stop at Pompey’s Pillar, a towering structure built in honour of Emperor Diocletian during the fourth century.

Your next destination is the Library of Alexandria, the largest library in the world, housing over eight million books. Explore its open court and marvel at the statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I, the latter recovered from underwater near the site. The visit also includes the Saddat Museum, the Impressions of Alexandria Museum, and, optionally, the Manuscripts Museum. Please note that the Library is closed on Fridays and public holidays, and a ticket is required to access the reading area.

Following this, visit the Church of St. Mark, the oldest church in Africa, while enjoying a drive through the old downtown area. Admire the historic architecture with its Baroque designs and Italian and French influences.

For lunch, you have the option to dine at a modern fish restaurant or at Mohamed Ahmed’s, a traditional Alexandrian eatery that has hosted notable figures, including the Queen of Spain.

The tour continues with a stop at the beautiful Abbo El Abbas Mosque, the largest and most picturesque mosque in the city. Nearby, you will see an old funfair where children enjoy antique rides and candy floss, creating a unique and charming atmosphere.

Opposite the mosque lies the corniche and the old harbour, where you can observe traditional fishing boats, fishermen mending their nets, and stunning photo opportunities. Conclude your tour with a visit to the Qaitbay Citadel, a fortress built on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Inside, you will explore all parts of the castle and enjoy panoramic views of the city from the roof.

On your return journey, you will pass by Stanley Bridge, a modern landmark of Alexandria, before travelling back to your hotel in comfort.

Alexandria is rich in history, culture, and culinary delights. If you have additional time or would like to customise your itinerary, please let us know your interests, and we will arrange the perfect additions at cost price, with no profit added.
